Gold rush: Indian team returns home
Nine women bagged medals at the 16th Asian Athletic Championship. The team was back home on Monday with 13 medals and a fourth place finish.

After Sania Mirza, it is time for the Indian women athletes to hog headlines. Nine women bagged medals at the 16th Asian Athletic Championship. The team was back home on Monday with 13 medals and a fourth place finish. Tough competition ahead Anju Bobby George won a gold at the 16th Asian Athletic Championship. She jumped to seventh place in the IAAF rankings with a 6.65 metres leap. At Incheon, Anju faced stiff competition from the Phillipino Marestella Torres, but she is aware of tougher competition at the upcoming World Athletics Championship finals in Monaco. Anju's target is nothing short of the 7 metres mark as competition in Europe is likely to get tougher. More medals The Indian 4x400 metres women's relay team was also basking in the glory of the gold medal. Navpreet Singh bagged a silver in men's shot put and Arjuna Awardee Anil Kumar with Bhupinder Singh, Satbir Singh and P Shankar came home with bronze in the 4x400 metres relay for men. "We performed better than before. We have also got the maximum number of medals this time," said Manjit Kaur, Athlete. The Indian girl's brigade also came out with flying colours at the 16th Asian Athletic Championship. Besides Anju, eight others also left their mark.
