New Delhi:The sentences may have been reduced from a life ban to a two-year ban, but the weightlifters are still a disgruntled lot. Pratima Kumari, Sanamacha Chanu and chief coach Pal Singh Sandhu were banned for life after failing a dope test at the Athens Olympics. The life ban imposed was far stronger than the guidelines of the International Weightlifting Association permitted. But it has taken the Indian Olympic Association eight months to reverse that decision and make it a two year ban instead. The lifters however, still maintain that they have been punished because of no fault of theirs and they will now demand for compensation as well. They are asking questions on why a life ban was imposed on them in the first place and what compensation will its reversal bring along. An executive committee meeting would further deliberate on the fate of Pratima Kumari and Sanamacha Chanu.
