Moscow: Germany's David Storl retained his men's shot put title on Friday at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow.

The 23-year-old threw a season's best of 21.73 metres to edge out American world indoor champion Ryan Whiting (21.57m) while Canada's Dylan Armstrong took bronze (21.34m).

The title hinged on Storl's fourth round throw with Whiting having held the lead since the first round.
