Gopi to lead India in Thomas Cup
Pullela Gopichand, who missed the recent National Badminton Championships due to ankle injury, will lead India in the prestigious Thomas Cup.

All England badminton champion Pullela Gopichand, who missed the recent National Badminton Championships due to ankle injury, will lead India in the prestigious Thomas Cup to be played in Holland next month. Gopichand, who pulled out of National Championship in Lucknow would be fit to lead the country, the Badminton Association of India which announced the men's and women's teams for Thomas and Uber Cups said here today. Gopichand had suffered ankle injury during his training at Milton (England) and played the Copenhagen Masters with it. Later it turned out to be a fracture. Gopichand who would defending his All England title in March had said recently that he would start practicing and was confident of bouncing back to form. Besides Gopichand, the team announced by the BAI selection committee comprises Abhin Shyam Gupta, Chetan Anand, Nikhil Kanetkar, Jaseel P Ismail, Jaison Xavier, Sunave Thomas, V Diju, Sachin Ratti and Arvind Bhatt. The selections have been made on the basis of performance of the players in the national senior championship at Lucknow and other tournaments preceding it, the release said.
