The much talked about National Sports Bill might have its share of criticism but former All England Badminton Champion Pullela Gopichand feels the draft can help in the establishment of a better sports governance in India.
"I am definitely for more transparency, better governance and accountability. These are important things and the Sports Bill addresses these issues, so I definitely support the Sports Bill," Gopichand, who is also the coach of the Indian badminton team, said on the sidelines of a promotional event.
"I like few of the points in the Sports Bill, particularly the 25 per cent reservation for the sportspersons. I think that seems a very-very important thing," the former champion added.
The Dronacharya awardee, however, said badminton as a sport has made a great progress over the years but insisted that we need further improvement to yield better results.
"It has made some good changes definitely. There is no doubt that we have especially at top level done very well but I would say that if we have done 10 per cent, the world and the main countries have done 100 per cent," said the national coach.
"There is a scope of huge improvement. Although, we have been competing well at the world level but there is a lot to be done in terms of improving the facilities available," he insisted.
