China dominated proceedings at the 2005 All England Badminton Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, UK, on Sunday (13/03), taking four of the five trophies on offer and producing three all-Chinese finals. The shock of the day came in the Men's Singles, where the top seed and world number one Lin Dan was beaten by his Chinese compatriot Chen Hong 8-15, 15-5, 15-2. The top seed in the Women's Singles was also beaten - Xie Xingfang coming out on top against Zhang Ning in another all-Chinese final 11-3, 11-9. Chinese pairings also won the doubles competitions, with Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng beating Lars Paaske and Jonas Rasmussen of Denmark 15-10, 15-12 and Gao Ling and Huang Sui beating the number two seeds Wei Yili and Zhao Tingting 15-10, 15-13. The home nation also had something to cheer about as Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms beat Thomas Laybourn and Kamilla Rytter Juhl of Denmark 15-10, 15-12. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
