With ace Indian shuttler Jwala Gutta deciding to take a six-month break from the game, her doubles partner Ashwini Ponnappa will now have to hunt for a new partner.
The Commonwealth Games gold medallist pair had missed the quarterfinal berth in women's doubles event at the London Olympics by a whisker and Jwala has now decided to take a sabbatical of six months.
"Jwala has decided to take a break of six months. She has asked me to find a new partner and continue playing till she comes back. So I will be concentrating on the mixed doubles with Tarun (Kona)," Ashwini told PTI.
"I have not yet decided on my new partner but hopefully by the next month ends, I will be able to figure out. There are many talented girls and I am sure I will get someone to continue playing the women's doubles," she added.
Ashwini said she will be playing only the mixed doubles events next months.
"Next month, there are two important events coming up in China and Japan. I will be playing mixed doubles events with Tarun there," she said.
Ashwini and Tarun are ranked 82 as a mixed doubles pair.
Li Ning China Masters and Japan Open will be held from September 11-16 and September 18-23 respectively.
