Berlin:
Markus Beyer stopped Alberto Colajanni in the 12th round to successfully defend his WBC super middleweight title for the fourth time. The German chased Colajanni for the whole fight before catching him with a short left with 48 seconds left, flooring him for the second time in the round to end the bout. "I was getting frustrated," Beyer said. "I kept trying to make him show himself but he was fast". Beyer, who has held the same belt three times, improved his record to 33-2 with 13 knockouts in his 12th title bout. Colajanni's record fell to 18-1 in his first fight outside of Italy. He was ranked 15th, the lowest possible for Beyer to have a voluntary defense. His frequent backtracking in the ring drew a warning from the referee. The shorter Beyer caught him occasionally, including a fourth-round knockdown. On the undercard, Italy's Paolo Vidoz defended his European heavyweight title with a unanimous decision against Germany's Cengiz Koc. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
