New Delhi: L. Devendro Singh on Monday trounced Velazquez Joselito of Mexico 40:19 in the 49 kg category to become the fourth Indian boxer to enter the pre-quarterfinals of the World Boxing Championships at Baku, Azerbaijan.
The 19-year-old from Manipur was on the offensive right from the start and attacked Velazquez relentlessly to force the referee to give the Mexican a standing count of eight. The Indian wrapped up the first round at 19:7.
He continued in the same vein in the second round and stretched the lead to 31:14. The final round proved to be no different with Devendro's hard blows to the head prompting the referee to give a second standing count to the Mexican.
