Hyderabad:
Andhra Pradesh boxer Hariyala Srinivas is aiming for a hat-trick, having set his sights on a third gold in a row in three consecutive national games. But the ace boxer says despite performing brilliantly at the national level, he is not getting a chance to show his mettle in the world arena, simply because basic support like the guidance of a qualified medical practitioner is not available. Srinivas is one boxer who enters the ring as the favourite every time. He won the gold at both the Manipur and Punjab National Games. The 25-year-old hopes to win a third in a row in the bantam weight category. The champion boxer however says he needs more support to do better internationally. "Along with boxing training and weight training, we need a good diet and proper medical guidance. All that the doctor does now is to give medical supplements." Known for his aggression, Srinivas tends to dominate the ring in every bout. Coach Chiranjeevi says the firepower needs to become a killer instinct. "His plus points are his aggression and fluid flow of punches. His minus point is that he terminates his attack," revealed Chiranjeevi. Srinivas missed both the Commonwealth and the Asian Games this year due to typhoid. Now he is firmly focused on qualifying for the 2004 Olympic Games.Topics mentioned in this article
