Shattering the district administration and state government's arrangement of welcoming the Beijing Olympic heroes, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) grabbed the centre-stage today and gave a rousing welcome to the Olympic bronze medallist boxer Vijender Singh and quarter-finalist Akhil Kumar.

INLD organised several functions to welcome Vijender Kumar Akhil. A large gathering of INLD workers brought these players in a convoy from Bamla village to Bhiwani.

Drums were beat during the welcome procession and people offered garlands at several points to the Olympians. Vijender arrived at Devi Lal Bhawan at Rohtak gate amid a convoy of motorcycle and elephants.

In a function held at Devi Lal Sadan, Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Singh Chautala welcomed Vijender and Akhil and said that the party would not leave any stone unturned in their honour.

Vijender, in a row of sentiments, folded his hands and said he would never forget the love bestowed on him by the country.

Sports lovers in huge number, stopped the convoy at village Bamla, 10 km from here and welcomed the Olympic heroes with dance.

From Bamla, Vijender and Akhil were brought in an open jeep to the former's village, Kaluwas.
Several streets of the village had been cleaned and the road leading to Vijender's house had been reconstructed.

Vijender's father Mahipal Singh Beniwal and mother Krishna Devi hugged their son several times.
Jubilant with Vijender and Akhil's success, Arjuna awardee boxer Mehtab Singh, Jitender Singh and Raj Kumar Sangwan today demanded to rename the Bhiwani boxing club in the name of Capt Hawa Singh, who was considered the father of boxing not only in Bhiwani but in the country.
