The first ODI of the Celkon Cup Tri-Series between West Indies and Sri Lanka started off to be a promising match up. West Indies won the toss and put Sri Lanka in to bat as the pitch gets better for the batsmen later on in the day.

Tharanga and Jayawardene had a solid start and was thought to be well on their way before getting out in quick succession after a partnership of 77. Sangakara and Chandimal went out cheaply with captain Angelo Mathews putting up the only fight - 55 not out. 208 was not good enough to put up a defend-able total on this batting wicket.

In the second innings, it did not take long for Gayle to get into his Thor stride and smash 109 off just 100 balls, with the task half way done, Charles, Bravo and Samuels took it home. Not to be over looked was the brilliant bowling performance and solid fielding from West Indies which helped ease the pressure on the batsmen.
