The Annual General Meeting of the All India Chess Federation to elect office-bearers for the term 2001-2005 will held here on October 13 as per the directive of the Kerala High Court. "As per a judgement passed by the Court on September 19, the meeting will be held here on October 13," AICF Treasurer Soumen Majumdar told a press conference here today. The agenda for the meeting includes election of office-bearers for the term 2001-2005 and ratification of the decision of the Central Council to grant affiliation to the Chattisgarh and Jharkhand state associations. Apart from election of office-bearers, the AGM would also consider the conduct of the 2nd World Cup and World Chess Championship (men and women) 2001 and 2002. A controversy erupted during the earlier AGM on September 1, when AICF President Druv Sawhney claimed that it never took place, while Dheeraj Raghuvanshi, heading the rival faction, contended that elections were held and appointments duly made. Raghuvanshi, who had claimed then that he was elected Secretary in place of P T Ummerkoya, also said his group would not allow another AGM to be held as they had not been informed that the AGM was being postponed.
