Indian juniors create history at Asian Championship

India takes the top three medals in the girls' and boys' sections at the Asian Junior Chess Championship

Indian juniors had a dream run winning all the medals in the 25th Asian Juniors Chess Championship at the Club Palm Bay. It is a unique result in the tournaments history where a single country has swept all the three medals in the both the boys' and girls' sections Deepan Chakravarthy won the gold medal in the boys’ section. S Satyapragyan and S Kidambi grabbed the silver and bronze respectively. Fifteen-year-old Deepan edged out top seed Grandmaster Ghaem Maghami Ehsan of Iran and International Master Mark Paragua of Philippines in the run up to his maiden title. Girls on top Delhi-based Tania Sachdev annexed the girls' crown and earned her maiden Woman Grandmasters' norm. She drew against top seed Dronavalli Harika. On the whole Indian girls dominated the tournament holding the top six positions. (With PTI inputs)
