Kanpur:Ruling out a fiasco like last year, the BCCI pitch and grounds committee chairman Daljit Singh on Saturday said pitch preparation is better this time at the Green Park stadium, venue of the second Test match between India and Sri Lanka here.
Playing against South Africa, India had won the match within three days last year, drawing sharp criticism from the International Cricket Council (ICC).
"People will see good cricket here. It looks there be a result," Singh said after inspecting the pitch. Dalit contended that weather conditions had also played a part in the fiasco last year.
"That Test was held in April and hot weather also had a role in that (failure). I had sent my report to the ICC and they were satisfied with the explanation "The weather is good this time and pitch is also better than the last time," he said.
Talking about the newly-laid turf at Delhi's Ferozshah stadium, Singh said it will improve with time. The Delhi track has also drawn criticism after doling out low-scoring matches in the inaugural Champions League.
"You need at least three seasons to judge the behaviour of a new pitch. The Kotla pitch will improve. Domestic matches will held for the assessment and grading," he said.
