Islamabad:Embattled Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ejaz Butt has been asked to resign by the National Assembly's standing committee on sports.
Sources said Butt has been asked to resign by President and PCB chief patron Asif Zardari's office.
The rumors gained strength after Butt was summoned midway during the hearing of the National Assembly standing committee on sports to the Presidency.
"Butt was summoned by the principal secretary to President Asif Zardari, Salman Farooqi who met this afternoon," source said.
When contacted, Butt refused to comment on the meeting putting down the phone when approached for his comments.
"Indications are that Salman Farooqi might have advised Butt to resign himself as there has been lot of criticism and anger over the way he is conducting cricket affairs and the poor performance of the national team has only added to his woes," one source said.
The NA standing committee yesterday told Butt to resign during the first day of the hearing into cricket affairs but the former Test player refused saying he had done nothing wrong.
Butt has drawn flak for the poor performance of the team and the PCB's handling of several issues like the Indian Premier League snub to Pakistani players.
