Hyderabad:
"I not only wrote a letter but also spoke to former BCCI chief Sharad Pawar three times personally and requested him not to shift IPL matches from Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam," Rosaiah told reporters in an informal chat in his chambers in the state Assembly.
"I told him (Pawar) that shifting of the matches will severely erode the state's image and send wrong signals to investors," the Chief Minister said.
Rosaiah said he assured Pawar that he would take "personal responsibility" for the security of the matches.
"Unfortunately, they decided not to conduct the matches in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam," he regretted.
The IPL governing council has not only shifted the IPL III inaugural function from Hyderabad but also the other matches scheduled to be held in the city and in Visakhapatnam.
Deccan Chargers, the local IPL franchisee, had sent a legal notice to the IPL and also threatened to boycott the tournament if the matches are not relocated in Hyderabad and in Visakhapatnam.
