New Delhi:As if back-to-back defeats were not bad enough, Rajasthan Royals will now be without star players Graeme Smith and Dmitri Mascarenhas for the remainder of the third Indian Premier League.
Royals captain Shane Warne wrote on his Twitter page that both Smith and Mascarenhas would not be available for the rest of the tournament because of their finger and ankle injuries, respectively.
"Unfortunately Smith and Dimma (are) going home due (to) injury," Warne wrote.
This is a huge setback for the 2008 champions who have lost both their matches so far this year.
"(It's a) big setback for us as Smith and Dimma are very good players for (the) Royals and their experience will be hugely missed," Warne conceded.
Warne wished them speedy recovery and had a chat with all other players who, he claimed, were in good spirits.
The Australian spin legend, however, refused to give in and promised to bounce back using whatever resource he had at his disposal.
"With these setbacks comes opportunity...we need some players to put there hand up and take responsibility! We back everyone all the time," Warne wrote.
Mascarenhas twisted his ankle in Ahmedabad on while Smith hurt his right middle finger while catching Virender Sehwag.
"I have a double fracture in my right middle finger, so will be missing the IPL. I hurt it taking the catch off Sehwag last night. wen (When) I landed, my finger got hooked in the ground," Smith said.
This is a body blow for the Jaipur-based outfit, which is already without key performers Shane Watson and Ravindra Jadeja.
While Australian all-rounder Watson is doing national duty in New Zealand, Jadeja is serving a one-year ban.
Explosive batsman Yusuf Pathan also picked up a shoulder injury during yesterday's defeat against Delhi Daredevils.
The Royals play their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday.
