Colombo:Statistical highlights of the second day's play in the third and final cricket Tests between India and Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
Virender Sehwag's 23rd fifty in Tests is his fourth against Sri Lanka.
Sehwag became the fourth Indian and the ninth player to complete 5,000 runs or more in Asia, aggregating 5080 at an average of 62.71 in 52 Tests.
In the course of his magnificent 97 off 87 balls, Sehwag has completed his 7,000 runs in 79 Tests, aggregating 7027 at an average of 54.89. His aggregate includes 20 hundreds and 23 fifties.
Sehwag became the sixth Indian to make 7,000 runs or more in Tests. Sachin Tendulkar (13782) tops the chart, followed by Rahul Dravid (11483), Sunil Gavaskar (10122), VVS Laxman (7256) and Sourav Ganguly (7212) and Sehwag (7027).
Sehwag has taken 134 innings for his 7,000 runs - the second quickest in the history of Test cricket. England's Wally Hammond had taken 131 innings to reach the milestone.
Sehwag has posted fifty-plus in ten Tests in succession. Only two players - West Indian, Vivian Richards and India's Gautam Gambhir - have recorded fifties in eleven consecutive Tests.
Vijay and Sehwag's partnership average of 129.80 (649 for the first wicket in five innings, including three stands of 100-plus and one 90-plus) is the best by an Indian opening pair with atleast 500 runs.
Sachin Tendulkar is the first Indian player to make 300 runs in the present rubber, aggregating 335 at an average of 111.66, including one century and one fifty. The said performance is Sachin's best against Sri Lanka.
Sehwag is the leading run-getter for India in the present series - 336 at an average of 112.00.
Pragyan Ojha (4/115) has recorded his best bowling performance in Tests, obliterating the 3 for 101 against Sri Lanka at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai in December 2009.
Ojha's aforesaid figures are the best by an Indian spinner at Colombo (PSS), bettering Rajesh Chauhan's 3 for 59 in 1993.
Sri Lanka (425) have registered their highest total against India at Colombo (PSS), surpassing the 396 in 2008.
Thilan Samaraweera (137 not out) has posted his highest innings against India. His 12th Test century is his third against India.
Samaraweera's aforesaid century is his eigth in Sri Lanka.
Samaraweera's unbeaten 137 is his second century at Colombo (PSS) - his first was 138 against Bangladesh in 2005.
Ishant Sharma (3/72) has produced his second best bowling performance against Sri Lanka, next only to the 3 for 20 at Galle in 2008.
