Colombo: The Sri Lankan selection committee, headed by chief selector Aravinda De Silva, has handed in its resignation to the sports minister today. The committee, that was appointed on May 26, 2010, includes Ranjith Fernando, Amal Silva and Azwer Ali. Their decision to stand down comes a day after Kumar Sangakkara's resignation as the team's ODI and Twenty20 captain.
In another unexpected move, Mahela Jayawardene has also stepped down as the team's vice-captain. Jayawardene was Sri Lanka's captain before Sangakkara took over in February 2009.
"I think it's time to move on, give the reins to someone younger in the team," Jayawardene told AFP.
