Union Minister Farooq Abdullah was on Thursday re-elected as president of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) amidst protest by a section of members, alleging the polls were not fair.
Abdullah, who has been president of JKCA for nearly three decades now, was elected unopposed for another three-year term.
Ehsan Mirza was elected as the secretary of JKSCA while Manzoor Wazir and Ghulam Mohammad were elected as treasurer and joint secretary respectively.
Mohammad Aslam Goni was re-elected as chairman of the Association.
After the results were declared, a section of JKCA members raised protests outside the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket stadium, alleging unfair practices in the poll process.
Shyam Prasad, who led the protests, alleged that Abdullah's political advisor, Aslam Goni, had prepared a 'fictitious' list of voters and was 'unnecessarily meddling in' the JKCA affairs.
"Goni has prepared a fictitious list of voters. We had urged the JKCA to prepare the list according to the court ruling of 2009 in this regard but our demands were ignored. He (Goni) is unnecessarily meddling in the affairs of the JKCA. As a result 39 out of 64 members boycotted the elections," Prasad said.
The disgruntled members said they would now approach the court for justice.
However, Abdullah defended the JKCA elections saying protests were 'nothing new'.
"Nothing is new here. We always have pandemonium whenever JKCA elections take place," he said.
Abdullah said the elections were held in a 'free and fair' atmosphere in the presence of observers - Justice Bashiruddin and a BCCI official.
