The controversy over Team India skipping the ICC Annual Awards in London refuses to die.
According to fresh reports, the Indian cricket team was asked to skip the ICC awards by a senior BCCI official. Reports suggest the senior official was upset with the ICC for not sending an invite to his office. Although, the ICC had sent the official invite to the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.
According to the report in a leading national daily, the official was miffed with the ICC and so asked MS Dhoni and company to skip the awards that were held in London on Monday.
"Since his office was not formally invited, he asked the players to avoid attending the function," the newspaper quoted its source on Tuesday. "And the players were happy to oblige. After the drubbing they've got at the hands of England,... they had no problems in taking minds off cricket."
BCCI chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty refused to speak on the matter.
Board's vice-president Rajiv Shukla, however, was at the function presided over by Sharad Pawar, the ICC chief, and went on to say that he expected the team to be there.
ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat on Monday had slammed that Indian team for missing the function and called it a "shame".
