Virender Sehwag's academy ground in Jhajjar has been an instant hit with Delhi Daredevils cricketers and with a bit of upgradation it may even host Ranji Trophy matches in the near future.
"The ground is ready and so are the practice pitches and the swimming pool. By the end of this year, the indoor facility will also be ready. I will have to get the sightscreens and scoreboard ready. If the Haryana Cricket Association feels that they would like to apply to the BCCI for organising first-class or U-19 matches, it would be great," said ehwag, who performed the dual role of a cricketer as well as host-cum entrepreneur on the day.
Sehwag's younger brother Vinod, who looks after the day to day activity of the Sehwag International School (SIS), said that with the passage of time they would be able to provide state-of-the-art facility which will be as good as anywhere in the country.
Apart from a full size cricket ground, SIS also has a volleyball court, basketball court, swimming pool and a tennis court.
"We are affiliated to CBSE board and already enrolled students from nursery to eighth standard. The accent (focus) is on those who are doing well in sport and to tap the talented kids in all sporting disciplines," Vinod Sehwag informed.
The SIS has also made provisions to take talented under-privileged kids under its wing irrespective of whether they are good in sports or academics.
"We are already sponsoring 22 under-privileged kids, whom we believe are talented and can do well in future with support from us. From next year, the students of our school will start participating in various inter-school sporting events," Vinod stated.
Sehwag, on his part, thanked Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda for providing all the support.
"Without him, this project wouldn't have been possible as the first thing you need is land. I will forever be indebted to him."
