Mumbai: Wasim Akram may have been a 12th man as a student but after a career spanning close to two decades, the former Pakistani pace legend is a treasure trove of experience. On Wednesday, he shared the 'wealth' with the eight captains who will lead their respective sides in the Toyota University Cricket Championship.

Joining TUCC as an ambassador, the legendary bowler with over 400 Test wickets asked the players about their expectations, preparations and advised them to stick to the basics.

"I hope you and your players are excited about this tournament. But I do want to know what your training is like. Does your coach make you do different drills?" he asked the youngsters.

One of the players present was an all-rounder and Akram took the opportunity to emphasis on the importance of being able to both bat and bowl in the shortest format of the game. "He is a key player. He is an all-rounder and they are very important in the T20 format,” Akram said, addressing the audience present.

Most of the players present at the event to mark the launch of the anthem of TUCC, hailed from smaller towns but Akram praised their abilities that had helped them make the cut and feature in this tournament.

"It will provide these players with the right platform to further improve. I will help them of course, through the course of this tournament. We shall keep meeting and talking cricket," Akram promised.
