When Jamia (Northern Stars) take on Madras University (Southern Sharks) on Wednesday night, it will possibly be the clash of the tournament till now.
Jamia beat Mumbai University in a tight encounter in their first match as skipper Parveen Yadav (67) and opener Amit Verma (62) were the in-form batsmen for the Delhi side. Abhay Negi and Deepak Sharma, both grabbed three wickets each but support bowlers will have to step in too.
For the Madras boys, it was an easy win over APS University, Rewa after an impressive bowling performance. Subramaniam Sivaramakrishnan was the top-scorer with 73 off 60 balls while Kamalesh Murugesan gave him good support. Skipper Avaikkarasan Sekar too looked in fine touch. It is the Madras bowlers though that Jamia will have to watch out for as Rohit Ramamlingam, Ashwath Sridhar and Kiran Kashyap were meticulous in their approach.
It was Jamia Millia University that thrashed Madras University in the Rohinton Baria Trophy quarter-final by eight wickets. Amit Verma and skipper Parveen Yadav were the chief destructors then too and the Southern Sharks will be wary of the two. Negi too would be much feared as he returned figures of 6 overs, 2 runs and 2 wickets then.
It will be the Jamia power-hitters versus Madras' wily bowlers with batting definitely being the strength of the Delhi side. The match will also give an early indication as to what the trend in the points-table will be. Madras are enjoying a healthy net run-rate after their thumping win but Jamia could spoil their party and climb atop if they manage to win.
Madras will be looking to play as a team and would ideally want their top-order to fire. Jamia definitely hold an upper hand cometh Wednesday night.
