Maya Sharma: India's cricket stars and hopefuls have gathered in Bangalore's National Cricket Academy to have their fitness assessed and improved. "We are coming after a long break, so it is really going to help as we have a tough season ahead," said Gautam Gambhir, member, Indian cricket team. Confident stand India's latest wicket keeper, who has proved he can do a good deal with the bat, is confident of making it to the squad for Sri Lanka. He is also confident about batting in whatever position decided for him, including opening the innings. "This is a decision to be taken by the management, the captain and the coach. If they want me to open I can open, it's up to them," said Mahendra Singh Dhoni, wicketkeeper. Role model In his wicket-keeping role, Dhoni's role model seems to be Adam Gilchrist, even though he has to contend with far more spin bowling than the Australian. "We have good quality spinners and keeping on them is really tough particularly where the wicket is bouncy. Adam Gilchrist is one of the best and I am watching him closely," Dhoni said. "But there are differences. Gilchrist plays on bouncy wickets and most of the time he is keeping to fast bowlers," he added. Meanwhile, the camp will be the first chance for most of the players to interact with new coach Greg Chappell, and they will definitely be putting their best foot forward for the first impression.
