Bangladesh names squad for Asia Cup
Bangladeshi cricket selectors today announced a 14-member squad for the forthcoming limited-overs Asia Cup tournament in Sri Lanka.

Dhaka: Bangladeshi cricket selectors today announced a 14-member squad for the forthcoming limited-overs Asia Cup tournament in Sri Lanka. Only two changes have been made to the team that toured the West Indies last month. Test opener Javed Omar will replace Hannan Sarkar, who was dropped because of "poor performance" during the West Indies tour, while top order batsman Shariar Hossain has been left out because of a back injury. "The team played well in the West Indies, so we did not make much changes," Chief National Selector Faruq Ahmed said at a news conference. Bashar retained skipper The selectors retained 31-year-old Habibul Bashar as captain, Ahmed said. The team will start training on Wednesday under national coach Dav Whatmore before departing for Sri Lanka early next month for the tournament. Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak, who was on the squad for the West Indies tour but did not get to play, is likely to make his international debut. Sri Lankan capital Colombo will host the six-nation Asia Cup from July 16 to August 1. The participants include India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates. Squad: Habibul Bashar (Captain), Khaled Mashud, Rajin Saleh, Javed Omar, Mohammad Ashraful, Alok Kapali, Mushfiqur Rahman, Khaled Mahmud, Mohammad Rafique, Manjurul Islam Rana, Tapash Baisya, Tareq Aziz Khan, Abdur Razzak and Faisal Hossain.
