Adam Gilchrist pulls out of Caribbean Premier League, competitive career all but over

The CPL organisers have announced the list of marquee players for each of the six franchises, with Ricky Ponting, Muttiah Muralitharan, Herschelle Gibbs and Ross Taylor all set to participate. Gilchrist's absence paved way for the inclusion of Shoaib Malik, the former Pakistan captain.

Bangalore: Adam Gilchrist's competitive career may well have come to an end after he pulled out of the inaugural Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in July due to an ankle injury.

Gilchrist captained Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League 2013 and, midway through the tournament, had announced that the CPL would be his last stint in competitive cricket.

"I have agreed to play the CPL but I have got some issues with my ankle. It is going to require some surgery at some stage to get it rectified," he had said after the IPL.
