Sydney: Australian paceman Brad Williams will replace the injured Nathan Bracken in the opening match of the triangular One-day cricket tournament, starting in Melbourne on Friday. Bracken, who was named in the one-day squad for the first four matches of the VB series, has been ruled out due to a hip injury, Cricket Australia (CA) said today. Bracken suffered a grade-one strain of the left hip muscle while fielding on the first morning of the Sydney Test, but continued to take part in the match. "It is not a major injury and we are confident that he will improve quickly, but it would be unwise for him to carry this injury into a fairly intense round of matches," Australian physiotherapist Errol Alcott said in a statement. A disappointed Bracken said he was hopeful of a speedy recovery. "Obviously I am disappointed because it's always a thrill to represent Australia and I was keen to play one-day cricket again after our great tour of India," Bracken said. "But this is just a minor setback and having spoken to physio Errol (Alcott), I am hopeful that the injury can heal quickly and that I will be back playing sooner rather than later," he added. Australia will play India in the first match of the tournament, which also features Zimbabwe. (PTI)
