London:
International Cricket Council (ICC) chief Ehsan Mani today reacted sharply to media reports of a 'conspiracy' against Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who has been reported for suspect bowling action. Mani said the match referee were within their right to report a bowler for illegal action. "Match officials are well within their rights to raise any concerns about any delivery from any bowler. The rules say it, the playing conditions demand it and every Test-playing country has agreed to it," Mani said in a statement. Terming the reports of a bias as "disappointing", Mani said, "While some say the conspiracy is lead by Australia and England, others see it is a conspiracy to protect the player involved". The ICC chief said that both claims lacked any substance and did nothing to help either the game or the bowler. (PTI)Topics mentioned in this article
