Tirunelveli: On a truncated day, Gujarat were 110 for four at close on the first day of their Elite 'A' Group Ranji Trophy cricket match against Tamil Nadu today. Play was possible only from late afternoon due to intermittent rains and Gujarat batsmen succumbed to the guiles of former Indian spinner, Aashish Kapoor, who ended the day scalping three batsmen. Electing to bat, Gujarat openers Nilesh Modi and Hem Joshipura were bent on seeing the day through. But Kapoor, who was brought on in the 25th over, dismissed Joshipura, brilliantly caught by Hemang Badani at silly point for 19. In the next over, Kapoor sent back Modi to the pavilion leaving Gujarat at 58 for 2. Modi was caught by Badrinath. After Akash Christian was adjudged lbw, Kapoor claimed his third wicket when Kirad Damani holed out to a running catch by Sharath at mid-on. At close, Mukund Parmar (15) and Bhavik Thakkur (20) were at the crease. (PTI)
