Although a formal announcement is awaited, Sachin Tendulkar is set to play his 200th Test at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. Board of Control for Cricket in India sources say the former Indian captain has expressed his keenness to reach the milestone in front of his home fans.
The Cricket Association of Bengal is also keen to host Tendulkar's 200th Test. Like the Mumbai Cricket Association, CAB has also formally applied to the BCCI. Interestingly, according to BCCI's rotational policy neither Kolkata nor Mumbai are eligible to host this Test match.
A senior BCCI functionary said: "Since Sachin has expressed something, it is difficult to say no. Plus from a sentimental standpoint, he deserves to play in Mumbai." A formal decision is expected on October 3 when the fixtures committee announces the dates of the December Test and ODI series against the West Indies.
