Chennai:
Play on the fourth day of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai was stopped due to bad light. At the end of 32.3 overs, India were 90 for the loss of two wickets, with skipper Rahul Dravid on 30, and master blaster Sachin Tendulkar on 11. India lost both their wickets within first hour of play. The first breakthrough was provided by Lankan pace bowler Chaminda Vaas when he bowled opener Gautam Gambhir for a duck. Virender Sehwag and skipper Rahul Dravid then added 32 runs before the former was caught by Marvan Atapattu off the bowling of Vaas. Sehwag made 36 runs. Earlier, India won the toss and elected to bat first when play finally got underway after the first three days were completely washed out because of heavy rain. The two umpires a€" Daryl Harper of Australia and Mark Benson of England a€" inspected the pitch and decided that the ground had dried up enough for play to start. With the start of the play delayed for first two sessions, 38 overs were to be bowled originally. Heavy showers caused by Cyclone Baaz washed out the first three days of play.(With PTI inputs)
