Wellington: The West Indies will play three tests and five limited-overs matches on a cricket tour to New Zealand in February and March which will mark the 50th anniversary of New Zealand's first test win. The tour was initially scheduled to include two tests, but the West Indies agreed to play a third match to compensate for the cancellation of a December tour to New Zealand by Zimbabwe. The tour was abandoned when the New Zealand government refused to grant visas to the Zimbabwean team. "Attempts to replace the canceled Zimbabwe tour have been partially successful," New Zealand Cricket chief executive Martin Snedden said in a statement Friday. "The West Indies cricket board has agreed to a third test match which will assist us to mitigate any potential losses from the canceled tour." The first test between the West Indies and New Zealand from March 9 to 13 at Auckland's Eden Park marks the anniversary of New Zealand's first test win, over the West Indies at the same ground in 1956. New Zealand Cricket released itineraries Friday for late-year and early 2006 tours by the West Indies, Sri Lanka and Australia which will incorporate 12 limited-overs matches, three tests and a Twenty20 international. The four one-day internationals against Sri Lanka replace those which were abandoned last season when a tsunami killed more than 33,000 people on the Indian Ocean nation. (AP)
