* Mahendra Singh Dhoni has played eight games against New Zealand as captain. The second game of this series will be his tenth game and he would then become the third Indian captain to lead India in 10 or more games against New Zealand. Others are - Mohammed Azharuddin (25) and Sourav Ganguly (16).

* When Dhoni leads India in the first one-day game on January 19, he would go past Kapil Dev, who had led India against New Zealand in eight games. First ODI game would be Dhoni's ninth game as Indian captain against New Zealand.

* Dhoni, Rahul Dravid and Parthiv Patel are the three Indian wicket-keeper batsmen who have scored two fifties (which are also half centuries) against New Zealand prior to the start of the series. One more fifty for Dhoni would earn him the record of most fifties by an Indian wicket-keeper batsman against New Zealand.
