1st Test stats: Kiwis' party continues as New Zealand defeat India for the first time in 12 years

After beating India in the ODI series, New Zealand registered their first Test win against India since 2002, when the Kiwis claimed the Auckland clash by 40 runs.

# New Zealand's 40-run triumph is their first in five Tests vs India at Eden Park, Auckland. They had lost the first two Tests - by 272 runs in 1967-68 and by 8 wickets in 1975-76. The next two Tests between the two countries at this venue played in 1980-81 and 1989-90 could not produce results.

# New Zealand's above victory is their narrowest victory margin in terms of runs over India in Tests, obliterating the 62-run win at Wellington in February 1981. Overall, the said win is their joint fifth narrowest in Tests - the narrowest being by seven runs vs Australia at Hobart in December 2011.

# New Zealand's aforesaid win is their tenth in 49 Tests at Eden Park, Auckland (lost 15 & drawn 24).
