Mohammed Hafeez has resigned as Pakistan's T20 captain. Hafeez had led the team in the ICC World Twenty20. Pakistan failed to qualify for the semifinals after suffering a huge defeat to the West Indies in a group match on Tuesday. Shahid Afridi is a strong contender to take over this role.
Taking responsibility for Pakistan's failure to defend the World Twenty20 crown, Hafeez pleaded with the fans to accept it gracefully and not react like "bad losers".
"We accept responsibility for playing poorly against the West Indies in the crucial match but we must also not be bad losers. They played better on that day to beat us," Hafeez told reporters at Karachi airport after returning home from Dhaka. (Also read: Hafeez says sorry to fans after World T20 debacle)
