James Faulkner will lead Australia A against India A and South Africa as Aussie look to groom new leaders. The young all-rounder will lead some of Australia's young talents, some of whom were recently seen in action in the Indian Premier league. Faulkner will lead in four four-day matches against A teams from India and South Africa in July and August.
With an eye on the future, Australia look to have short-listed Faulkner, Steven Smith and Cameron White as future leaders. Twenty-four-year-old Faulkner has already played some match-winning knocks for the senior team and seems capable to handle developmental teams.
"James is a young man with plenty of character and possesses a great desire to win," the new national selector Rod Marsh said of Faulkner. "He is still developing as an all-rounder but we believe this captaincy provides him an opportunity to do that as well as develop his leadership skills."
