Goa Cricket Association Strips its President of Powers

The Goa Cricket Association is in doldrums after state-run Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) had issued show cause notice to the cricketing body on August 27 for failure to adhere to the recommendations of Justice Pendse Commission. The Commission which was probing 2001 India-Australia cricket match ticket scam had recommended that Phadke should be kept out of the GCA's managing committee.

Panaji: The Goa Cricket Association's Managing Committee has stripped president Vinod Phadke of his powers to chair meetings and represent the body in the BCCI.

The resolution which was adopted in a managing committee meeting on September 3, a copy of which is with PTI, mentioned that Phadke "shall not discharge functions of president of Goa Cricket Association".

"It is resolved that in view of Pendse Commission recommendations, Phadke is hereby restrained by managing committee under powers given to it by GCA constitution that he shall not discharge functions of President of the body," the resolution read.
