Chennai:
Indian cricket team coach John Wright today said that it was very important that the team began well in its opening encounter of the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. "It is very important that we start well. It will be a challenge for us. Many people will complain that our opening match is not an even contest. But it is very important because the next match against Sri Lanka is critical," he said at a press conference before the team's departure to the island nation. India will play newcomers United Arab Emirates on July 16 in their opening encounter and then face the host on July 18. Top two teams from each group would qualify for the super league. Deserved break The team has had a nearly three-month break after the Pakistan series and had regrouped during the training camp, which ended last week. Wright said it would be a tough competition in Sri Lanka but exuded confidence that they would emerge triumphant. "We will surely find some good opposition there. The Pakistan series ended 3-2, we all know Sri Lanka are very good at home and Bangladesh have the capability to surprise," he said. When asked whether the pressure would be the same as it was during the Pakistan tour, the former New Zealand opener said Pakistan was a unique experience. (PTI)Topics mentioned in this article
