Cairns:
Shane Warne is already targeting wickets in India in October to keep the competition up for number 1 spot in the Test cricket bowling standings. Warne took his 527th wicket to equal Muttiah Muralitharan's record for most wickets in Test cricket on Tuesday as the second match against Sri Lanka ended in a draw. Muralitharan, who withdrew from Sri Lanka's squad for the series in northern Australia, is expected to regain top spot in his own right in two Tests at home against South Africa next month. Successful return Since returning from a 12-month suspension for a doping violation in March, Warne has taken 36 wickets in five Tests - all against Sri Lanka. His career figures are 527 wickets from 112 Tests at an average of 25.47. Despite his success around the globe, the 34-year-old leg-spinner has struggled in six Test matches in India, taking only 20 wickets at 52.25. Unconquered territory India hasn't lost a series at home to Australia since December 1969. "We've lost the two series I've played in India. In my 13 years of international cricket, it's the one place we haven't won," he said. "On the two tours I've been on there they have played me extremely well but I wasn't fully fit either," Warne added. Warne will return to England to fulfill county cricket commitments before rejoining the Australian squad for the October Test series on the subcontinent. That's when Warne hopes to unseat Muralitharan at No. 1 in the all-time standings. "There's a lot to play for. It's the two best sides in the world and India is the hardest place to win in world cricket," said Warne. Warne made his Test debut against India in January 1992 at Sydney and returned 1-150 in the match. Since then, he's taken only 29 wickets in 11 Tests against the Indians at 55.44 and never produced a five-wicket haul in one innings. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
