Bhopal:
A Bhopal court is likely to hear a contempt petition against the BCCI for appointing Jagmohan Dalmiya as its Patron-in-Chief today. The petition claims Dalmiya's appointment was in violation of the court's interim order to the BCCI, asking it not to go ahead with the move to appoint Dalmiya till the court took a decision in the matter. The contempt petition was filed in a Bhopal court on Monday, and Civil judge P K Nigam, while reserving verdict on the petition by Bhopal Cricket Association member Yogesh Khattar, asked the BCCI to submit a reply on the legality of the appointment Dalmiya its patron-in-chief by September 20. Khattar, through his counsel Ajay Gupta, alleged that the appointment of Dalmiya as patron-in-chief was in violation of the court's interim order and demanded contempt proceedings be initiated against the cricket board and its office-bearers including Dalmiya who holds the office of board President till September 29. Khattar had earlier challenged the move to make Dalmiya the patron-in-chief contending giving him the post was outside BCCI's rulebook. The court, which had issued notices to BCCI, Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association and others for a reply today, posted hearing on Khattar's earlier petition for hearing on Septmber 20 when cricket board's lawyer Gaurav Chhabra sought time to give a reply.
