Multan:Pakistan selectors announced a 16-member squad for the five-match One-Day International cricket series against India on Friday.
Controversial fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has been recalled by the selectors after serving a 13-match ban.
As per the chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed, Shoaib had been picked after one of the selectors gave a clear report on his fitness and match form.
Shoaib was banned for 13-matches and fined Rupees 3.4 million earlier this month by the Pakistan board on four charges of misconduct after he hit fellow paceman Mohammad Asif with a bat in South Africa.
Pakistan lost to South Africa by a big margin of seven wickets on Friday and with the five-match One-day series level on 2-2 the final game is slated for Lahore on Monday.
Salahuddin, a former test player said that a well balanced squad had been picked for the one-dayers, slated to begin November 5 onwards and will be played in Mohali, Kanpur, Gwalior, Jaipur.
Shoaib Akhtar was also put on a two-year probation after he was found guilty by the disciplinary committee of the board of having violated the code of conduct when he hit fellow player Asif in early September.
"We are confident that with Shoaib and Asif in the touring side and the others also bowling well we have a strong bowling attack suited for the Indian conditions," said the Chief Selector.
Nasim Ashraf, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has also asked Shoaib to fulfil his role as a senior player and prove his critics wrong with a forceful performance during the tour of India.
"The tour of India is certainly the most important assignment for our team and is perhaps even more important than the World Cup, I expect that all the players, including Shoaib Akhtar, would be at their best behaviour and give 100 per cent," said Nasim Ashraf, Chairman, PCB.
"I hope that Shoaib will be a changed man on the tour of India," he added.
Salahuddin also said that the board would be announcing a new vice-captain in place of Salman Butt in next few days. "He is in the team but he is no longer the vice-captain," he said.
