Hyderabad:
Aussies beware! VVS Laxman, who has always done well against the Kangaroos is preparing himself for the tough series Down Under not by merely spending more time at the nets but by listening to and promoting devotional music. Laxman says that spiritual lessons help play better cricket.
"My parents made me read Bhagwad Gita and Sai Charitha since childhood. Luckily for me, especially the profession I am in, more and more I started playing cricket, I was able to understand 12th chapter of bhagwad gita and stories of Shirdi Sai Baba. He fulfilled my dream of playing for the country," he said.
Laxman ducked all questions on aggression in the present one-day team but said that he will present each of his teammates with a copy of the music album that features well-known singers like SP Balasubramaniam, Shankar Mahadevan, Chitra and Unnikrishnan.
"Some of them have already heard it when on England tour. Music was just composed then. Most players are devotees of Shirdi Saibaba and language is not a barrier. All of them are not just staunch devotees but also great lovers of music, so am sure all of them will enjoy listening to this," said the Hyderabadi batsmen.
And who knows, listening to the soothing notes may result in the mind games taking an entirely new spin.
