New Delhi:
BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla, the unofficial media man of the board came out on Tuesday in support of the selectors.
This comes a day after NDTV's Navjot Sidhu blasted the board and the selectors for treating one of the finest cricketers of all time in this humiliating fashion.
Dravid's dropping has surprised most, angered many more, with calls being made by several ex-players for Sharad Pawar to intervene and not allow the former captain to be made a victim of 'politics'.
Rajiv Shukla spent the day sharing in the celebrations of the Twenty20 team as they were honoured in the capital.
Speaking about the whole fiasco Shukla made it abundantly clear that the board is standing by the selectors.
"I don't think the BCCI should comment on this issue. It is the prerogative of the selection committee and they have taken their decision. Even Dravid himself hasn't made any statement on the issue. Vengsarkar has said that Dravid will make a comeback and I believe that is true. So lets not give it so much importance," he said.
Dravid has been asked to regain his place on the national side by playing Karnataka's Ranji fixture in Mumbai starting later this week.
Close friends of the cricketer claim he is very upset. Apparently four of the five selectors wanted to rest Dravid and the lone selector who stood up for him was out voted. But Dravid's list of supporters is growing.
The Wall is dealing with the whole issue with great dignity, but looking at the bigger picture, this move, its believed could add unnecessary pressure on the other two senior players in the team.
