New Delhi:
The BCCI sent an email to Vengsarkar on Tuesday afternoon informing him that it will not remove the restrictions on the chief selector writing for the press.
The board has asked him to proceed to Bangalore for selection meeting.
Sources told NDTV that the board has given Vengsarkar an ultimatum for December 5 meeting. If Vengsarkar fails attend the selection meeting, the BCCI will appoint another selector from the West Zone for which Chandu Borde would be their first choice.
Vengsarkar has been asked to either attend the selection committee meeting or tender his resignation in an official manner.
The BCCI has reportedly convinced the other four selectors to attend the meeting.
Vengsarkar had sought a meeting with BCCI officials before the selection Committee meeting, but the Board is not willing to have any discussions as of now.
The Board is apparently quite miffed at the way Vengsarkar has reacted. Vengsarkar is said to be unhappy with the Board, after the BCCI refused to offer compensation for not allowing him to write his cloumns in vernacular dailies.
The Board though has made it clear that an SMS is not an official way of tendering a resignation.
The names, which are doing the rounds in terms of replacing Vengsarkar are those of former India coach Angshuman Gaekwad and Chandu Borde.
BCCI versus Vengsarkar
Various theories have been doing the rounds as to why relations between Vengsarkar and the BCCI really soured.
Is Vengsarkar upset with Niranjan Shah over the sudden change of dates for meetings, which affected the chief selector's schedule? He apparently sent an email to Sharad Pawar to that effect.
The bottom-line is: what happened behind closed doors that turned the 'Colonel', reportedly a favourite of Sharad Pawar, into enemy No 1 of the Board and most importantly whose side is BCCI chief on?
