Bangalore:
As soon as Venkatesh arrived at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium at forenoon, venue of the third India-Pakistan Test, he told the men painting the logos on the turf that the paint would hamper the pace bowler's run-up.
The bowling coach told the official supervising the work that the paint would restrict the bowlers' run-up. However, Venkatesh's words fell on deaf ears as the painters continued to work on the three logos.
The official suggested to Venkatesh, a former India Test speedster, that the Indian nets should be shifted to the other side of the ground, not realising that the area was earmarked for the Pakistanis' practice. Despite the Coach's objection the men continued to paint.
Eventually, the logos were completed and the Indian pacers were seen starting their run up from the top of the logos as the paint had not dried up, partly because of the heavy cloud cover and cool breeze.
Venkatesh's cry was lost in the crass commercialisation of the game by the Indian cricket Board, which is currently worth more than $9.6 billion.
