The five-year ban imposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will not affect Shoaib Akhtar's Indian Premier League (IPL) participation and the maverick pacer will play in the multi-million dollar Twenty20 series, BCCI vice-President and IPL chairman Lalit Modi said on Wednesday.

"It is extremely clear in our player policy that the respective player will have to get an NOC from his home country for joining the league. The home country can either issue or deny the NOC. In Shoaib's case, it has not been denied," IPL Chirman and Commissioner Lalit Modi told reporters today.

Akhtar was handed a five-year ban yesterday for repeated indiscipline, virtually bringing the curtains down on his international career.

However, the PCB has given him the go ahead to play in the IPL.

Akhtar has been signed by Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan's franchisee team Kolkata Knight Riders for a sum of USD 4.25 lakh. The first season of IPL begins on April 18.
