New Delhi:

Kolkata Knight Riders carried their winning momentum from Bangalore to their home ground as they beat Deccan Chargers by 5 wickets to record their second win of the Indian Premier League at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Deccan Chargers, defending a total of 110, started off well with the ball as they had Knight Riders 21/3 at one stage. But David Hussey (38) had other plans as he played anchor's knock and guided his team to victory. He understood the nature of the pitch well and didn't let his aggressive instinct take charge. However, he did hit three long sixes in the death overs to take his team closer to the target.

The Eden Gardens wicket proved out to be more dangerous than it was anticipated. Batsmen from both the sides struggled to score big. Despite the presence of hitters like Symonds, Gilchrist, Ganguly, McCullum and Hussey, only ten sixes were hit in the entire match, which was quite unlike the other IPL matches in the last couple of days.

Local boy and skipper Sourav Ganguly scored just 14 runs and fell to left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha. Murali Kartik (3.4-0-17-3) was the most successful bowler for Kolkata while Chaminda Vaas (3-0-9-2) did well for Chargers by providing early wickets.

Earlier, after winning the toss Deccan Chargers skipper VVS Laxman decided to bat first but none of the batsmen, barring Andrew Symonds and Adam Gilchrist, showed any resilience.

The wicket was definitely not batsmen-friendly and a score 130-140 would have been a defendable but Chargers were all out for 110, falling short of atleast 20 runs.

Symonds (32) was the lone warrior for Deccan, who along with compatriot Adam Gilchrist did some repair works for his side, before falling to Agarkar. Deccan captain VVS Laxman disappointed his side and went for a duck as he mistimed a pull-shot off Ashok Dinda and the ball found the fielder.

Bollywood stars like Vivek Oberai, Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar and political heavyweights like Priyanka Gandhi Vadera, Rahul Gandhi were present to cheer Shah Rukh Khan's Knight Riders.
