Kolkata:An inter-state gang suspected to be placing bets on Indian Premier League matches was busted by Kolkata Police detectives with the arrest of five persons on Monday.
"The five were big names in an inter-state cricket betting syndicate. Obviously they were engaged in betting for IPL matches," the city Deputy Commissioner of Police, Detective Department-I, Javed Shamim told PTI.
The arrests were made from the Phoolbagan area in central Kolkata.
They were identified as Bishnu Mundra, Adarsh Mohta, Baldev Damani, Mayank Damani and Dilip Sharma.
He said a TV, laptop, telephonic conversation recording machine, notepad, daily punter boards, settlement sheets, eight mobile sets, and a WLL phone were seized from them along with Rs 16,300 in cash.
Shamim said the arrested persons were being interrogated and the police would seek their custody when they are produced in the court on Tuesday.
